This wide-open area with the Gallatin Range in the distance to the west offers beautiful vistas and is the location of Swan Lake. Swan Lake is a shallow body of water, named for the frequent visits of Trumpeter Swans. Trumpeter swans are the largest waterfowl in North America. The north side of the flats is a location where real life in the wilderness is often played out as grizzly bear hunt for newborn elk in the spring.
