Lake Village

This is one of the more popular hubs in Yellowstone and the location of The Lake Hotel and Lake Lodge. Also, a general store and small picnic area are located here. Beautiful views of the lake and distant islands can be seen from most locations at Lake Village.

  • The Lake Hotel: The original structure of Lake Hotel, with its 80 available rooms, opened for business in 1891. Today it holds the distinction of the longest standing lodging facility in any of the national parks and is designated a national historic landmark. Between 1891 to 1917, visitors mostly arrived via boat that launched from the West Thumb marina. Over the years, the hotel has undergone several renovations and upgrades. Today the hotel includes 153 guest rooms, 36 guest rooms in Sandpiper, and 110 adjacent cabins.

Fairly recent renovations include the elegant Sun Room with its stunning view of the lake, the dining room, bar, deli, and public lounging areas in the hotel. The Inspired by Yellowstone Artist Series is presented here. The hotel now offers free valet service, room service, wired internet, and a business center. All rooms are non-smoking.

  • Lake Lodge: Originally built as Wylie’s Lake Camp in 1893, Lake Lodge’s log structure (at least the eastern part) was built in 1920, with the main portion of the lodge completed in 1926 with the dining room and recreational hall wings added. The surrounding tent cabins were reconstructed as hard-sided structures. Over the years, cabins have been relocated, replaced, and today 186 cabins are located to the north and west of the main lodge. A spacious front porch to the lodge offers a panoramic view of Yellowstone Lake and the Absaroka mountain range in the background. Amenities at the main lodge include a spacious lobby with two fireplaces, a lounge, and gift shop.

There are a total of 186 cabins located behind the main lodge. Western Cabins have two queen beds, private bathrooms with shower or tub/shower, toilet and sink. Frontier Cabins are basic multi-plex units furnished with one or two double beds, bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink. The more historic Pioneer Cabins are furnished with one or two double beds, a bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink.

  • Medical Clinic: Open Seasonally (307-242-7241)

  • Picnic Area: The picnic area has only 4 tables and is located southwest of the motel along a 20-foot drop off to the lake.

  • General Store: The store offers a variety of items including gifts, souvenirs, apparel, jewelry, outdoor supplies, books, groceries, wood bundles, ice, and more.
