This one-mile drive is paved for vehicle travel but ends at a parking lot with a gate blocking further vehicle travel. The Fountain Freight Road begins at this parking lot. It is a wide gravel path nearly 4 miles in length, accessible only by walking or biking. In the spring, this meadow area is a gathering location for bison and elk, and grizzly bear are occasionally spotted on the western hills. About .3-miles into this hike/bike you will see Ojo Caliente Springs. Eventually you will cross over the Firehole River, travel through wildflower meadows, pass by Goose Lake, and arrive at the Midway Geyser Basin, passing by the famous Grand Prismatic Spring. The trail officially ends in a large parking lot that serves as a launching spot for various hikes in the area including the Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook and Fairy Falls.
