Blacktail Pond

This pond is easily seen from the road and has somewhat of an ominous reputation as a bison trap. During early spring, migrating bison herds are known to lose a few members who fall through thin ice or off the abrupt edges into the water, unable to escape. For this reason, bear and wolves are often spotted in this area retrieving the carcasses from the pond for an early spring buffet. The pond has decent-sized brook and cutthroat trout. Paths leading to the pond will pass through marshy wet areas producing spongy ground, so waders or waterproof boots are recommended.
